Antituberculars in Hungary: reason for concern?

Isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide and ethambutol or streptomycin shall be used as first-line treatment of tuberculosis. For multidrug-resistant tuberculosis 3-5 previously unused drugs should be used for which there is in-vitro susceptibility. Regimens should include an aminoglycoside (streptomycin, amikacin, capreomycin or kanamycin), a fluoroquinolone (preferably levofloxacin, alternatively ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin), a thioamide (ethionamide or prothionamide), pyrazinamide, ethambutol, cycloserine or terizidone, para-aminosalicylic acid, and a diarylquinoline (bedaquiline). For multidrug-resistant tuberculosis the treatment should continue for another 18 to 24 months. New drugs such as bedaquiline significantly improved time to sputum culture conversion.
